In creating a character I usually try to focus on two things; firstly to create an interesting non-humanoid creature and secondly to get at the essence and feel of that person. Numerica’s design, for instance, features both the literal and symbolic elements. While my stepmum really does have those bright eyes, the eight tentacles speak of her ability to juggle about a hundred different things in her busy charity work. Being a touch OCD, she may even appreciate the ability to have her influence in as many things as possible.

The interesting quirk of your own counterpart Arlo, is that he is the only one not to have true biological antennae. My intent was to use those for low level empathic abilities. However, Arlo has an artificial antenna implant, so he has a better read on emotions than other members of his species. Perhaps, he wanted to understand and therefore feel closer to the other species in Artinaut’s galactic neighbourhood? There is a strip in there, for sure.

Sophira Lou gifted me with a Secret Santa drawing.
Isn’t it just lovely? It’s quite special to receive a traditionally painted piece of art these days, so I’m very happy.
Artinaut and her stepmum Numerica chilling out in the snow (or is it Spaghetti Monster’s fluff?).

Artinaut 38 - Evil by *YelZamorThere are nice people in the world. They make our life on this planet an easier, better experience. Anti-trolls, people to aspire to be, basically. Then again, there are gits like ~carlosthemanoflove. The type that will bake a cake, or cookies (I’m looking at you, Sgyreju), then boast the crap out of it, knowing FULL WELL how far away I am.Bastards. What kind of a just Spaghetti Monster would allow this? It’s not fair and I won’t stand for it, and neither should you. Next time, a friend or loved one bakes something and then boasts about it over the Net-aether… much worse, takes bleedin’ PHOTOS of it… tell them they suck. And they won’t cease sucking until they damn well share.Merry Happy and a Gleeful New Year to you all.~Y

Artinaut is still on an official break, unofficially, though, you may or may not get a cheery webcomic close to Xmas. Here’s a script teaser. :)

Artinaut 37 - Soon is Now by *YelZamor
Hey peeps, while Artinaut’s Artdventures is still officially on hiatus, I did a mini style test today that may be of interest.Sunday, 9th of December marks a new chapter for me as a gamer. A chapter that began in 2009 when MGS: 4 floated into my obsessive fannish window. Long story short, as a casual PC gamer, I’ve always felt like I was missing out on the various exclusive experiences. Now, having discovered that such a tremendous joy as Uncharted exists, there was no other choice but to buy a PS3. I’ve waited long enough, methinks. Perhaps too long considering the rumours that a PS4 will be announced/released next year, and the Slim PS3 is now reportedly out of production. So, the first three panels pretty much describe the angsty dance around ordering a console. It costs a fair bit of bob, but years of saving means I can permit myself to afford one.Guys, please do let me know what you think about the style test. The ‘classic’ lineart absorbs a lot of my time and, while the result looks pretty, it tends to burn too much of my energy. I am attempting to simplify the line without compromising on the expressiveness and humour. Not ditching backgrounds and established colouring, though.I often moan about the absence of bespectacled characters in fiction, so Artinaut’s getting some! While the webcomic is merely inspired by and isn’t an accurate reflection of real life, I do like to picture Arty as my webcomic avatar. I like wearing glasses, so why shouldn’t she?In the new 2013 Artinauting year, I plan to focus on improving my writing and keeping character art consistent. My aim is to improve, so don’t ever be shy about offering some constructive criticism. Anyways, be cool, people.~Y

Artinaut 36 - The Net-aether II by *YelZamor
Greetings, peeps…It has been a while, hasn’t it? Firstly, thank you all Artinaut readers for your patience. My webcomic output has been quite terrible this year and all I can offer are excuses. Comic colouring has been very busy, as well as a few personal study projects which are all in aid of me getting a proper art job eventually.Secondly, this is totally a cliffhanger ending to Artinaut Season One. The webcomic is far from over, it will continue on in Season Two! What will happen to our heroes? Will Minerva conquer her Net-aether scarring? Will Artinaut’s butt get thoroughly kicked? Will Veggineer have a romantic relationship with a bacon tree? Will Arlo ever invest in a successful business? Stay tuned to find out… It may take quite a while before we do, though.

Artinaut 35 - The Net-aether
Modern life is almost unimaginable without internet. It has become so integral to our social, creative and educational life that a day without it results in the worst withdrawal symptoms. ‘The Interwebs’ has of course been reimagined by Futurama already (a series I have fannishly and unconsciously drawn inspiration from), so it was only a matter of time before we got our Artinaut version. The idea originates from a nutty conversation I had with my sister about the world of netting. She doesn’t seem to be as internet and social-media obsessed as myself, but is still fairly active as a gamer.I’m expecting to split a number of stories into two parts, seeing as quite a few strips in the past have ended up being somewhat cramped. The headlines in the information/science crystals feature some science jokes (well…) “New Law: Speeding Tickets for Hyper-light speed particles”, “Comet Surprise at Skyway Rush Hour; Causes Tailbacks”, “Metal-Repairing Substance Proposed – Made of Magnets” and “Graviton; Heavy of Attractive?” Let me know if you have a hard time reading them, by the way.TwittarTumblar

Artinaut - 35 wip 2
Keeping very busy with comics colouring. Check out our Hero: 9 - 5 facebook page for teaser pages. Here’s another peek at the Artinaut process, for those curious. Compare the sketch and inks. As you can see, I tend to avoid polishing the sketch in order to get to inks faster.
